JULIE DERBYSHIRE
Memento Mori
Encountering a precious possession we see not so much the object itself but the memories that are attached to it, memories of the person who gave it to us, memories of childhood, of times past, an awareness of our own ephemeral state. The act of photographing such an object serves as both a doorway into the past and an acknowledgement of the object’s ability to invoke the universal concern of life’s fragility.
